grub screw help

i was swapping my driveshafts over and the thing where the driveshaft goes into that cup thing that it pivots, in the grubscrew that holds it in has rounded, any1 got any tips on getting it out cos it has rounded on 2 of them, if its anyhelp this is a t2 eu 08

Did you rounden the hex in the grub screw? Please explain more clearly. If you did rounden the hex then you can try a larger diameter tool for instance an american size which is between 1.5 and 2mm, then you can use a hammer to try and fit it inside the rounded hex. If done correctly, you will be able to unscrew the broken hex screw.

Failing that....

If you turn it upside down you will see that there is enough room to get a small drill bit in there and drill the pin. Will be easier if the pin has a flat spot. But I do not know how effective the bit would be in drilling through the pin and whether you can get the two bits of pin out, although I suspect you would be able to. (this still leaves you the problem of the grub screw even though you have have salvaged the driveshaft and axle). IE ...

The alternative is to drill out the grub screw. I suspect though you may well damage the coupling trunnion thread in doing so which will mean two new trunnions. I had a similar thing happen on my pinion gear once and ultimately I had to drill it and bin the pinion - maybe if I had had the right Dremel bit (whateverthat might be) it might have been easy but it was hard work!

ye im gonna drill it out as i can get the part that will get damaged very cheap of a friend

thanks, im going to do it on thursday when i can borrow a drill, ive got the trinion or whatever there called things now so its allgood :wink:

I tried to drill out a grub screw on a pinion once and all I managed to do was destroy the drill bit, the steel is very hard on them. I would try the imperial driver first, failing that make sure you have the right drill bit

Use only a high quality drill at very slow RPM. Use a lot of pressure and a lot of coolant.

ye ive tried with an imperial driver, ive drilled out a few grubscrews before so hopefully ill be able to do it
