can anyone explain what the foam does in the shock cap, I have the idea that's controls the diaphragm movement and acts as a damper on the diaphragm.

I have notice on some of the team drivers set up sheets that some aren't using them.

How does this effect the handling of the car, with out the foams in the shocks?.

Hi,

If you use foam, car gets more steering and little more roll

When the traction is very high (mainly on carpet), we remove foam to get little less steering and to avoid traction rolling

many thanks Mr Hudy for replying.

I don't understand how this works, as I was thinking that foam would stop the diaphragm from stretching as much in a type of two stage damping.

does the diaphragm deal with the high speed damping and the piston/oil deal with the slow speed damping?.

The foam stops the diapragm moving upwards against the top cap on compression, meaning that it pushes back against the oil with more force.
