Hey,

So I have a friend who is going to sell me his M18. It has all stock parts, etc, and I want to upgrade to a brushless motor and LiPo system. I've been big into R/C airplanes but never cars...so I'm not totally sure what brushless motors will work properly with this car!

I have seen the super expensive brushless kits that are designed for micro cars. However, I'm not going to be racing this or anything, just scooting around the office, so I don't really want to spend a lot of money on the upgrades. For my airplanes, I usually buy electronics from Hobbyking, who have great prices and a huge selection. I want to get a motor from them -- I'm sure at least one is compatible -- but all of theirs are specified according to the kind of airplane they'll work for, not car.

Can someone explain to me how I'd find a motor that would fit this car properly? Things like mounting hole distance, maximum dimensions, and what kV rating to look for (assuming 2s and good, but not insane, speed) would be really useful.

I was looking at , which I think is "380 size" -- would that fit? Is 2700kV a good rating for the M18?

380 size is a 400 size an is a bit larger than a 300/370 size, it can fit but you can get problems with mounting the rest.
2700kv will work but do not expect high speeds, for a car you do need at least +/- 4600kv for normal speeds within the pinion range.

Thanks, that's really helpful.

I found another motor that is 370-size. It's a little smaller but is 4400kV -- this would be a better choice for the M18 then? I haven't gotten to take a good look at the mounting system for the motors yet (friend hasn't brought it from home yet :P ), so would the car accept 16mm motor mounts and a 2mm shaft?

Thanks for the help!

That will bring you in the range of a brushed 300/370 motor. Depending the gearing it can be up to a 50~60 km/h

It should work. Bit long for my tastes. You might.. might have an issue with the shaft being too long. Dremel can fix that.

I think it might also fit the stock mounts. (Stock mounts are for 130S size). You will need to enlarge the holes for the 3mm screw though.

We can also know as its electronically commutated motors. and its synchronous electric motors and takes power from direct-current .In other language we can described it as stepper motors. which is fixed by the permanent magnets. its has 19,100 speed, and it is use in fix wing aircraft.
