XRAY - Model racing cars

Has anyone triied that mad some other companies have been doing to their shocks, where they drill a small hole in the shock cap and use a peice of foam in between the bladder and cap to help keep rebound more consistant. I was curious if any of the pro Xray drivers had given this a try, it seems like a pretty plausible idea, I was thinking of doing this to my Truggy, with such a long stroke on the shock I do notice a fade in the rebound and dampening after about 20-30 minute depending on ambient temperature and track conditions. If anyone has tried it, mind letting me knwo what you thought of it and what kind of foam did you use, any specific tire foam or just foam you could buy and a retail shop? was there a noticeable improvement in rebound and dampening over time, or is this just some hype? I did watch a couple of top level pro guys at a race doing this to their cars, but they drive an off-brand vehicle, not something with the class and style of an Xray, (sponsor me) can't say yes if I don't ask.

Yes it has been tried & does give a more constant shock for a long main. We are Woking on some foam Inserts just takes time to get tests & feedback complete. Other companies have made the foam insert but takes a fair bit of altering to fit the xray shock. The large volume xray ribbed bladder makes a big improvement to consistency so would advice giving them a go before you mod your shock caps.

I have just recently tried the New ribbed bladder's and did seem to feel alot better.. I have some of the l*si shock foams and some custom one's a friend has done for me to try. But don't really want to end up drilling a hole in my caps unless there is a vast performance increase.. or can get some used cheap ones from the UK...

I'm with you Jamiek, I don't see myself drilling holes in perfectly good shock caps, I do have the ribbed shock bladders, have yet to try them, I have a set-up that works well for myself and not sure how much of a change this will make, it does feel loose towards the end of a long main, but sometimes I'm not sure if that is just me being tired up on the stand.

I've ran whole summer with the ribbed bladders + used foams above them, no holes. Because I haven't had any issues I'm happy with this setup. I cut the foams out of old (thick) mouse mat. It has just the right stiffnes ().

This gives a lot rebound. Because of the foams I almost can't go below 50% rebound without getting negative rebound but I'm liking it - running about 60-70% positive rebound.
