Step 1 to fix the 808. Buy 2 Xt8 pinion gears part number XRA355108 . You need four 8x14x4 bearings which im sure you already have. Heres the only part some of you may have a problem with. Machine a sleeve that fits the stock bulkhead that captures the bearings to support the pinion.http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk88 ... ure949.jpg

Heres what it looks like assembled.http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk88 ... ure951.jpg This assembly simply slides into the case and is retained by the three screws from the previous bearing. Front and rear drive shafts from an MP9 fit perfect after mod.

Move the rear center brace foward so the rear hole of the brace screws into the front hole on the chassis. Drill a new front hole in the chassis after you trim the front of the brace to clear your engine. Install a longer screw through the rear tower and make a 9/16 inch spacer to go between the brace and tower. You will need to shave a little from the front brace and battery tray if you use the K car center shafts. You may use other shafts as long as the front is close to 103 mm and the rear 130 mm. Thats it!

If anybody is interested in this fix but cant access a lathe I will be making sleeves.

I will be posting more pics tomorrow. Also I failed to mention that Im using 09 cases to keep the weight lower. Remember when you could spin the wheels on your Xray and it felt smooth and spun forever? Its back!

Pictures are on the way. 20 minutes or so. Im thinking 40 bucks for a set is fair. you will have less than 100 bucks invested and it will be fixed for good!

There it is Guy's. The photo of the rear brace and rear shaft kinda looks like the shaft is close to hitting but its not. Shown is the stock rear brace trimmed and moved foward 1 hole with a 9/16 spacer between the tower and brace. I also shaved a small dish in the battery box so the rear shaft wont hit during chassis flex. Theres really nothing more to say, its an easy fix. I just wish I would have done it back in 08. I will be putting a set of sleeves on ebay titled Xray 808 pinion upgrade sleeves.

Like the idea but if you've got quick change engine mounts like I do you can't move the rear brace forward enough for the drive shaft to clear. I really like the idea
but. Anyone got any ideas to get around this problem?

Try putting a longer screw through the inner rear location on your mount setup and custom make a center brace using a turn buckle that slides over the screw and has a nut on it. You would have to make a bracket to attach it to the tower but its a thought.

New 2010 bulkhead, 1 race old. Fully serviced before 45-min A-final with new 13x20 2-bearings and a lot of grease between and around them like I've been always doing. This is after the A-final in which we had 15-minutes of rain. Win from the final was good, but this isn't:

I have a question Mader,, why didnt You make the sleeves so an 8x16 bearing would fit. Thay are way much better than the 8x14 bearings. The rest looks great.

Make two new ones that fits 8x16 and I will buy a set :-)

I just wanted to keep the same design as the old reliable TQ model. Same bearings it used. I can make whatever size you want.
