I have decided to adapt my 808 to the old driveline from the TQ/EC era. The trouble is finding the parts. A main does not have any driveline parts available. Can any of you expert XRAY Guru's help me with some sources?

Hi Mader,

If you are looking to use the old pinion/bulkhead setup, there are a couple obstacles to clear with that conversion. I had an old XB8 EC electric conversion that I wanted to change to the 808 chassis and suspension, but using the traditional universal shafts/pinions moves the joints much closer to the center of the car and therefore increases the angle of operation. I was working with an electric conversion at the time which gave me some flexibility in positioning, but you may have clearance issues between the nitro motor and radio box since it is already pretty snug in that section. It also required moving the chassis braces to clear the new shafts. And you will need to make new shafts to match the chassis lengths needed on the 808 chassis.

If those obstacles don't turn you away from the project  , feel free to give us a call at the warehouse tomorrow as I think we have most of the older shafts still. We will be happy to help.

Those things are no issue at all. Custom is my middle name. I figure xt8 parts will work fine. I will give you a call. Thanks.

Haha! I love to see how custom projects turn out! That hobbyist attitude is something that has dissappeared from the industry recently, but it is cool to see these projects pop up from time to time.

You will also be able to play with the internal drive ratio between the old buggy gearing of 3.33 and the standard 4.3 if desired. It could be a cool option to play with.

Bryan, I noticed the XT8 has 2 different bulkheads. front 352000 and rear 352002. It looks like 2 of the rear ones will do but I would like your opinion especially if you have one to compare to. Thanks

Mader,

The 352000 has the mounting locations for the old front upper arm hinge pin that are not needed on the 808. You could use two of the XT8 rear bulkheads, 352001, for the front and rear of your project. One thing to watch is the mounting location for the top plate will not be horizontal due to the kick up on the 808 chassis. Both bulkheads will need some material removed to get the the surface parallel to the chassis plate for proper mounting of the top plate, so modification of some kind will be required either way. I don't believe there are any other differences between the two.

The 352002 is the 808/2009 spec bulkhead for the 13x19 bearings.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.

Hey Bryan, Just wanted to thank you for your support with my 808 driveline upgrade. Turns out alot of the parts I wanted are just too hard to find now. In turn it forced me to go with a much better solution. If you are interested to see what it is then go to the 2010 spec pinion bearing thread. It is all in there.

Hi Mader,

I did see your final pics, it looks good! I always like to see these custom projects work out as the designer hoped!

Now we just need to figure out how to get those brand 'z' univerals off there and it will be sweet!!

I agree but until I can find an Xray shaft the right length and is still available they will have to do.
