Folks

Anyone using the new V2 clutch bells with the 358520 dust covers? If so, how are you shimming them correctly? I usually run a 1mm spacer behind the collet just to space the flywheel away from the front bearing on my engine. Just after any tips from people using them to get correct play.....

There's nothing I've been able to find as supplementary instructions for them aside from a pic :?

Cheers

Adrian

Havent looked to deep into them yet Adrian as using up my old versions first. I guess you will just need to run more shims behind the collet to push the clutch assembly further forward , I see it being fiddly & painstaking to get right but once there allot quicker to change things over..

Ps good to see you back on here or did you sneak on without the misses knowing

Hey buddy :D browsing the interweb can be done while mopping up baby sick, or better yet at 'work'!! That's the place I now go to to catch up on my lost sleep!

Since I've got a pass to go racing for the 1st time in 3+ months I thought I'd better put the car together after I got part way through sorting it after Neobuggy....just need to decide on a setup. Am going for a 15t clutch bell (hence the question, as it's new) as I remember the track as quite tight in places and no long straights.

I had another look at the clutch bell yesterday - think you're right about the best approach being to get the shimming right behind the flywheel collet. The dust cap does a lovely job of retaining the bearing and applying nice even pressure over the end of the clutch bell. Easiest way I can see to get the shimming right is to measure the amount of movement between flywheel and clutch bell to get the correct shimming to put in there.

About 0.1mm cold is probably about right from memory?

Keep me a space under the gazebo, if you're not full for Kent SRS?!

Just to update this, I've now fitted a V2 clutch bell and dust cover :D

I messed about with various shimming options, all involving putting the shims behind the flywheel collet to avoid messing about with tiny shims around the bearings.

Thought 1mm might be too much, but having tried 0.9mm and found it too loose I've gone back to the original 1mm shim. This is using an Xray flywheel, clutch and bearings.

Xray list various shim widths in the manual to use behind the collet - I only had the 0.2mm thickness ones, so used some others I had from a different clutch system rather than packing out with half a packet of the 0.2mm ones!

Obvious advantages of no crud getting into the bearings, no little shims to lose when you pull the clutch bell off to service, easy to swap clutch bell sizes without needing to re-shim (hopefully!)

Will run it on Sunday at a track I know to be fairly dusty when it's had work done on it to see how it holds up

Same part numbers as before, but V2. The only pic I can find is in the download section as the original version clutch bell pics are still shown on most pages:

http://www.teamxray.com/teamxray/produc ... 4mm%20Ball

Basically has a lip on the outside of the clutch bell, which the dust cover fits over and holds the bearing square.

Yeah, that's the dust cover that goes with the new style clutch bells - bottom pic is the side that goes against the bearing
