Forums are based on a CMS system (Content Management = the way many websites are made today). These systems have leaks/bugs which hackers, bots and worms can use to get acces.
This guy isn't a user but a worm or a (ro)bot creating an account and plugging his advertisements.

A CMS must be updated in version or patches just like a computer (no matter which OS) to keep out thos nasty programs and users. With larger sites and forums the hackers mostly from Russia have the intent to hijack the database. They try to get acces as an administrator which is possible if you are running an outdated CMS and run an encryption tool on the database, then they contact the administrator to pay for a decryption for the database. Smart administrators run a daily backup.....

In the old Xray forum we had a picture with letters and numbers a bit blurred and an unclear background as an extra security. Simpel OCR tools to read them out can not be used on such a picture so it will keep the bots out.

To give an idea how sick the internet is: you just take a PC with a plain installed Win98 without updates and just connect it to the internet through a modem without firewall and do nothing. Within 20 minutes the 1st virusses are installed without using mail or a brouwser. These so called worms do not sleep and are taking a part of the speed of the internet.
