The old XB8 is really tough to setup and will never match the speed of the 808 even when it is setup correctly. Get an 808 if possible.
The XB8 will be a good beginner buggy to learn the ropes of racing with though as it is possibly the strongest buggy ever created and it is really, really easy to work on.
XB8 vs 808 is really a question of expectations and skill level. If you are expecting to win at moderate to high level the XB8 won't cut it. If you are just looking to have some fun racing casually with the local guys then the XB8 will work just fine.

The XB8 is still very competitive against some of the newer buggys, ryan donovan raced the XB8 last year at the northern regional series and finished 2nd beating MP9's,MBX6's,808's ect..... :D :D :D
Yes ryan is a Ex Xray team driver but IMO the car is still competitive

I agree that the car can still be competitive. But the newer cars are definitely easier to drive, which makes the "average" drivers (like me :wink: ) perform better.

I just switched from an XB8EC to an XB808, and the new car is just so much easier to drive. :lol:

I had a 808 2009 full option less then 1 gallon
with cnc toeplates, towers and servosaverlink
also 3 carbon plates
I sold it for half the prize and got me a new chassisplate for my old tuned xb TQ.... :shock:
easier for me, seems to drive like the Tamiya of Lutz

The biggest issue I had with my EC is the loose rear end. It just stepped out way too easy. Where the 808's rear end just feels more planted.

I run a TQ
I use 4000/3000/5000 on every track, always use at least 5000 in the rear....!
38T front drivegear, plastic ec braces
4 holes pistons with RMV progressive springs
and the xb is on rails
no problem in the rough
steering on-off power ...I turn under Losi 8's
never a loose rear end
and it never breaks down....can I ask for more..?

Anyone put a set of big bore shocks on the xb-8. I just bought a set of Losi shocks and really don't even know where to start for a good set-up. Any ideas or info?

This is my setup from last weekend.

try to drill the original pistons to 4 holes, it's much better in the rough, as is
lower than 5000 in the middle diff
if you want more steering, don't hesitate to go down on the caster inserts

I mounted the 808 rear arms/driveshafts to my TQ and it just mounts on
puts a little more weight to the front

Boxhead: How far down did you have your shock adj down. I race in Pittsburgh,Pa weather has been around 85. I put 45 weight in the front with #54 losi fluid spacer, and 40 weight in the rear with #56 fluid spacer. I haven't thrown them on yet. I used losi 2.0 set up to get those weights and fluid dampers. What do ya think. i'm scared to throw them on, my buggy handles pretty good with the stock set up but I'm sure those bigger shocks will be easier to handle?

my TQ with the 808 rear arms mounted..gives more droop in the rear

Could you give me a overall length of your shocks please? My losi rear shocks are way shorter than my factory ones? I'm lost hoew to set it up? When I bolt the Losi shock on the arm is up way higher than the stock shocks were?

in the rear the shocks are real long originaly..especialy with the 808 arms
up front average

fr shocks = 100 mm
rr shocks = 125.50 mm hole to hole
