I didn't brake any 5x10x4 bearings this season. I changed them after about 1-2 races and then used them on 1:10 touring as wheel bearings Nicly run in and very smooth after cleaning and lubricating with a drop of oil

Check out if you can get UR clutchbells. They heave great price and include 2 bearings.

The biggest reason for blown clutch bearings is that people shim the clutch too tight. You must have 0.5mm or more play. By hand it might seem too much. Just take the caliber and check if you have at least 0.5mm. I would suggest to have something closer to 1mm. Been there, blown those bearings, learned my lesson!

I do shim them so there is at least .5mm measured by clutch bell gap tool thing. Gear mesh nice and loose too. As far as I know I've got the clutch set up properly. Even the team drivers are calling it good if they get 2hrs out of a set. That just seems excessive compared to past experience. Sounds to me like the small bearings are worth a try. Even if they are no better lifespan at least they are available at the shop, or from someone else at the track if you are in a pinch.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to try the small bearings. Yes, I know clutch bearings are a consumable item, but like you said Butcher, the big ones have been inconsistent for me also. The last set is belly up after less than a quarter gallon. Other times they lasted longer. Whatever. I'm just trying to keep things as simple and easy as possible. I've figured out the leaking shocks, the clutch bearings are next.
Other than those two things I'd say the 808 is about as close to perfect as I've ever seen.
I like to maintain/fix my stuff at home as much as possible, so I can spend my time at the track working on my driving and learning setup stuff, not stressing out wrenching on a filthy broken car between heats.
