The upper & lower position gives you the option to increase or reduce your droop or maintain it if your running the outer holes on the whishbone.
It just gives options as every one will want somthing different.

Terminology of wishbone / driveshaft level gives easy reference when setting a ride height as its somthing that is the same on the cars. This comes as setting a wishbone just below is harder to judge than saying driveshaft level, as when you look at a car neither are normally in the same plane. In most cases on the cars it ends up front drive shaft level & rear whishbone level.

Hope ive understood what your after & it makes sence.

For the most part what I think your asking WHEN to use the upper or lower row of holes in the shock tower. Until your ready to spend the time to try some odd ball combinations then do as suggested above but let me state it in a different way.

If your going to use the outer hole on the arm then use the lower row of holes on the tower.

If your going to use the inner hole on the arm then use the upper row of holes on the tower.

That is how it was designed to be used way back in the day when the 2 rows of holes started to appear on towers. It was to compensate for the inner & outer holes on the arm & keep the shocks stroke the same length.

It does not alwasy take into account how much droop is possable & is not ment to(but can be used to) as the shocks on some cars will not let the arms touch the droop stop pads on the chassis & some cars have more travel possable from the shocks than the droop stops will allow.

Anyway to make it something you can see mount your shock top to the outer hole on the top row of the tower & inner hole on the arm & set your droop so the shock is at full extention,so you can slide the shock top off & on the post without the shock moving up or down.Off,on,off,on with no movement of the arm or shock is what you want. Now put the shock top on the outer hole on lower row & outter hole on the arm. You see that the shock slides off & on the shock mount post with almost no adjustment or movement of anything. Thats the way it works on almost every brand car or very close to it.

The setup book will explain why you would want to use the inner or outter hole on the arm or inner or outer on the tower but for now just match the hole you use on the arm to the matching row on the tower.

If that awnsers your question then good if not keep asking.
