So my questions about the XB8 are as follows:
If you own one, what do you think?
I struggled for a long time trying to decide what buggy to get. I had done well with the K2 and a MBX5 but didn't feel that they really fit my driving style. So far, about 3 months and 3 gallons on my Xray and I couldn't be happier.
Does it drive really well compared to other buggies you've driven? (kinda a personal opinion question here.)
The thing I didn't like about my Mugen is that I always felt like I was looking for more turn in. I also did not like the feel of the buggy when the track got really rought. I'm still searching for some additional steering with the XB8 but I think it is there. I also feel that the XB8 is better in the rough, light years better than the mugen ever was for me.
Is it reliable? (Do some parts require constant maintenence, do some parts have a tendency to break a lot, etc)
If you look at some of the other threads on here you will see that there have been some issues (front upper turnbuckles breaking, spur gears breaking, escentric bushings breaking). But so far, I haven't had any of these problems. I've got over 3 gallons on my XB8 now and have not had a broken part yet. The thing that I like most about the buggy is that it seems to be holding up very well. Very minimal slop, if any, in the car. Still as tight as it was the first day I ran it. This would not be the case if it were a Mugen.
Are the plastic front hubs working out?
I've only seen one plastic hub fail. But Xray is coming out with some option parts and I'm assuming that new updated hubs are one of the parts they are working on.
Any obvious issues that need to be addressed as soon as you open the box? (Some issues are fine, as long as there's fixes.)
Not really an issue, but a lot of people are doing a "droop mod" to the front end of the car (A-arms and or hubs) to get more front end droop.
Good luck with your decision!!!
