I have completed my 2009 EU kit. My questions are what lipo do I use? I am thinking of a Orion 4800 lipo, and a decent charger. In addition I will be running in the sportsman class at my local track. I need a good 17.5 motor and a ecs, got any suggestions.

Hi

Personally I dont think you can go wrong with the Orion Carbon editions (3200 or 3400).

If you are running 17.5 then go for a 3400 25C one as it fits great into the chassis, has retaining lugs and has a handy indent for adding extra lead weight - The 3800 does not have this indent

It is also a smaller case then the 4800, and I am not sure you will need the extra capacity with 17.5 (Unless you want longer runtimes or less frequent charging)

I run 3400s on my 17.5 and 13.5 with no problems with runtime - After 6 mins of racing, it takes about 20mins at 1C to top back up.

To fit mine in my T2 (06) I removed my centre battery holders, dremmeled my outside battery holders slightly as the battery case is slightly rounded and shimed the battery strap (if using) 1mm under its uprights to allow for the extra height. I can also put 100G of lead sheet into the battery indent, so putting the weight back from where it went

As far as the best Motor / ESC, then that is another can of worms - I would look at a Novak Havok or GTB setup (Havok if you want a good cheap setup)

I personally run a Spektrum SR3500 micro reciever, Novak GTB with 17.5 Pro (Sintered Rotor) and a KO PDS Servo in my T2. I have never had any issues with this combination of electronics, but everyone will have a different opion of this.

Is a Orion carbon 3200 or 3400 cpompatible, if I run a 10.5 motor?

Hi

It should be - It will take more out of the battery, and require a longer charge after a 6 min race, but it should not drop it below the safe voltage. - Runtime will also be dependant on the type of track, and your gearing.

Most of the racers at my club use a 3800 (IB) brand battery with 25C, as this is the main one available in Australia in 10.5 with no problems so a 3400 should be fine for 10.5 - Our track is open and fast

Remember with LIPOS the bigger the capacity, the longer the run time between charges, and the bigger the C (25 / 30) rating the more punch it can deliver.

You should never charge above 1C so on a Orion Carbon 3200 or 3400 you need to charge it at 3 amps
