I am going to purchase some 808 shocks for my XB8... what are the advantages of using these Big Bore shocks?

Channah, Here are some advantages of the BB's.

1. more volume for more oil, better for optimal packing.
2. easier to set up for best packing.
3. smoother
4. more set-up options with more holes in pistons. Ex. you can plug a hole/s for different feel.
5. they work better on rougher tracks.

I like them better and I do believe they work better for sure.

I used to run the big bores on the EC and I can tell you it packed much more corner speed than standard shocks. It definitely soaked up the bumps and ruts and made jumping much better.

I'm not sure on the Hong nor & Ofna link...Isn't Hong Nor Japnese and Ofna American?

I ran the Hong Nor Big bores yesterday...oh yeah, that's more like it, they felt great and worked all day, I ran them with no boots on a wet muddy track 40% astro, 60% dirt and the shafts are fine (my 808 ones seem to have discoloured and gone rough) shocks stayed consistant throughout the day and was something less to worry about and as a result I drove accordingly instead of backing off from a jump as it'll kill the shocks and bottom out big time.

I think I'll stick with the HN BB's and have a play with pistons and oil, I ran 30wt all round which was still in there from my ol Hyper 8.5 Pro UK ~ the stand offs are a few mm longer which doesn't seem to be a problem and they sit parrallel.

It's strange as some are experiencing problems with the Xray shocks and others are raving about them, I'd like to get the Xray shocks on par with the HN's as it's part of the car, I feel as though I shouldn't need to replace them but at the end of the day it's all about performance and confidence...I have no confidence in using the xray shocks and would it would be hard to go back to them, besides spares are cheap for the HN's :) :lol:

My driving was much better and faster yesterday, the 808 is great in the fast bends, one thing I did notice was just how much steering the RC8 has and it turns like it's on rails, well it had more steering than me but still couldn't close the gap as I had so much acceleration and top end :)

It looks like we are talking about the same shocks with different name :)
I looked it up on the Internet and found this information;
After starting in 1990 the products of Hong Nor have found their way through different channels all over the world.
In Europe most products are sold under the Hong Nor name, how ever in the USA their products mostly carry the JAMMIN name or OFNA name.
But as I did tell you before do I still need to try big bore Xray shocks before I can say that Jammin shocks are better or not. I'm still wondering about if the problem with Xray big bore shocks is because of the plastic they use in pistons. Some plastics absorb lot more fluid than other, it could be the reason for shock binding. If you measure the piston when it is new and again after it start to bind then I would not be surprise it have expanded :roll:

You will have to try the Xray ones to get your answer otherwise how will you know if one is better without trying :lol:

I knew Jammin & Hong Nor were the same but not Ofna, my bad :oops:

Some have reported a difference in piston sizes, thickness & diameter, they require too much maintenance to me, cost a fortune in oil every week ~ I've had my Xray a while and not used the HN BB's until last week when I picked them out of my toolbox and fitted without even opening them as I knew they would be fine and they were, even with no boots on running in the wet dirt :)
