how long does an engines in average last? i read in a forum of 5 gallons (thats what: about 15 liters?), is that all? could you tell me about how many hours / gallons?
and what means "last"? Does it mean "broken" or just not top power anymore?
thanks very much for sharing your knowledge.

Pros hardly break the motors in, they run a idle tank through them and then race tune. Mainly because they are travelling so much and don't have time to sit there and break motors in so they last. Those motors don't last longer than a gallon or two. I know a particular driver at the on-road worlds that went through 12 motors while there, lol.

The best lasting motor I have run is a stock P5, they were my first motors so I was even learning tuning and all 3 of them went over the 7 gallon mark. I was so happy with the life I got out of them I didn't even bother rebuilding them, just gave them away because I got more than my moneys worth in my opinion.

The most important factor to motor life in our motors is clean oiled air filters, dirt is what kills motors the fastest. Always have oiled filters on your car and keep them clean!

O.S. tells you not to put any after run oil down the carb of their motors for the exact same reason. They say it will eat out the carb o-rings.

anything over 5 gallons on a good race engine is good life.

regular maintenance and inspection along with good tuning and dirt-free internals can get you as much as 8 gallons on a good itallian powerplant.

most big name racers never put more than 3-4 gallons on an engine without complete rebuild.
