Take out both sides of the bearing shield with a razor blade.

Use a Brake Cleaner or Gun Scrubber spray and blow out with a air compressor. Spin (High speed) the bearings with the air compressor. (Faster method)

OR

Ultra sonic cleaner and then blow out/spin with air compressor.

Then

Repack full with bearing grease (Both sides), and pop shields back in place.

I have over 5-6 gallons on many of my original X-Ray bearings and still feel great after several cleaning & using these method. Cleaning bearings is VERY easy to do

Pull off both seals using a scalpel. Place the bearing inside the RPM bearing cleaner. Spray WD40 through it. Use the compressor while it inside the RPM bearing cleaner. Once the bearing is clean I place it on my pointy nose pliers and spin it by hand to see how it runs. If its still scratchy or has movement I toss it out if it still good I pull it out and place Castrol high temp bearing grease inside and replace the seals.

If bearings are really dirty inside and I don't have spare to replace it I pull the seals off and leave it in fuel/gasolinge/nitro fuel overnight and then clean it.

I heard ultra sonic cleaners are good for cleaning out diffs/shocks. Have you tried that? I usually use Shellite/lighter fluid to clean out the silicone oil.

So I guess something like white spirit would also work well? What about nitro fuel?

And rocco, you leave your cleaner running all night?!

I personally just put new one's in, but Ralph told me that's how Blackketter (his personal mechanic) does the bearings in his rides.

As far as what goes in, anything that's petroleum based but is thinner than the lube in the bearings, as it will wash it, along with debris, out. Light fluid should be cheaper than rc car fuel, so I guess keep that in mind!

When Blackketter built Ralph's nitro onroad cars, he would clean the bearings like I said, with lighter fluid overnight, and throw them in the car, because the little bit of oil in lighter fluid would lube the bearings just enough to allow them to be really free. But I wouldn't recommend this for offroad, haha!

Would Coleman camping fuel be good to use as a cleaner because it has Naphtha?

What type (brand) of grease would you suggest to repack wheel bearings?

Use water in the ultrasonic unit. put the bearings and kerosene in glass jar and place it in the unit. Then afterward blow it with airgun, dip it in militec, add bearing grease, and re seal (better than new)
