Is there a clever way to test/compare how free the drivetrain is? I build the car and run it for some time. Then I wonder, if I should rebuild it and clean or replace bearings. Maybe few bearings have some dirt in and have friction which makes the car go slower. I would like to test it not use a hunch or somehow "hand-feel" it. I don't yet run so important races that I should rebuild the car every time.
I have thought some ways that might work:
- Roll down the car (engine pinion removed of course) down a slope and see how far it rolls. Compare the results...
- run the car off ground with x% throttle and measure the current. The input voltage has to be constant from a PSU. When the drivetrain has bigger resistance the current is higher. Compare the results...
Thoughts? Advises?
