A very important notice to all 808 owners
Here are several facts that every 808 owner must notice, remember and understand:
Fact #1.) The 808 was designed for competition racing and as such all the parts were designed as such. For the lowest rotating weight and unsprung weight the ball bearings in 808 are smaller than they were on XB8 and they are smaller than on most other buggies in the market. The part of the reason why your 808 handles, accelerates and jumps so well is the overal design of the car where the small bearings play important role.
Fact #2.) The smaller bearings in 808 have shorter life time than the standard bearings used in XB8 or other off-road cars. As such the bearings will have to be serviced and replaced more often than on XB8 or other off-road cars.
Fact #3.) You can keep the life time of the 808 bearings at a fairly good level by making regular servicing to the bearings after every usage of the car. For this use the
Fact #4.) It is not possible to state any life time of the bearings as there are too many factors that influence the life such as the track conditions, amount of dust, the frequency and amount of servicing, etc. Sometimes the bearing may last just few hours, sometimes several times more, it all depends on too many factors. For example the factory team made tests at the last Euros and from the very first practice to the very last day during the whole week, without even any servicing made to the bearings, there was no single bearing failure on the car. And the amount of dust was extreme.
Hopefully this answers to all the questions and concerns posted to this topic. These are the facts and we just suggest regular servicing and maintenance to all the bearings which will keep the life at a very reasonable level.
