XRAY - Model racing cars

From all I've seen the 808 is a big step up from the EC platform. I wouldn't miss out on all the improvements and a faster car over something as simple as shock boots but to each his own. Plus Xray already said they are coming up with some optional "bootable" lower ends. So all you would have to do is screw them on. If it really means that much to you, you can always get the one of those covers that go on the outside of the shock.

I assume you recently got your EC so if that's the case then it makes sense to maybe wait a bit and see if they make some improvements you'd like to see.

I just hated bleeding the EC shocks all the time so to hear the oil gets dirty daily is a let down to me.

I will continue to watch the reviews and broken part threads come in and make my choice later. Besides as mentioned I have a lightly used EC to still wear out so no biggie to me. I read all about the lap time improvements and laugh because I have to keep it on the ground first to matter, lol. I just cant say its setup or the car holding me back right now.

I'll use the optional long boots, once they are availible. Been a fan of those for years.

Dont like the fabric spring covers that are availible (sorry UGRC). All the sets I have owned have always bunched up under the spring coils and then that changes the rate. Plus you cover up a slick looking shock.

if you use the accordian style rubber boots, you should not have a problem with limiting the shock travel (AKA Kyosho)...I too am amazed, with all the thought that went into the car, that they kept the felt wipers, because I believe they are an absolutely terrible design that simply does not work (and several racers around here that really, really like the 808 are saying the same thing). Surely it would be a simple production line fix, right?? Just put a lip on the bottom shock retainer, no???
