XRAY - Model racing cars

Hi everyone,

Just got an M18 Pro a few weeks ago, and got it up and running. I'm using 5 cell NiMh 1400mah packs from Maxamps, Mamba 25 ESC and 6800kv motor, and the HiTec HS81 servo. I have the Novak Mongoose system on pre-order.

I've noticed alot of people talking about the Hitec servo. I also have the 82 model. Can anyone explain the differences? I got the 81 in a car I bought off of ebay, brand new, never used. When I took it out of the car to put in the M18, I ordered a 82 online to replace the 81 in the other car. But I think I'd like the better one in the M18. What are the good and bad things about these servos?

Alot of people here talk about the multi-diff and something called a one-way. What are these? I'm currently running my front diff tighter than the rear diff, and i have had absolutely no trouble on either an asphalt oval or an asphalt road track. It steers wonderfully! What are these other diff options, and what reasons would one need to use them?

I have to say, the M18 is awesome! I was running against a few 1/10th nitro cars last weekend, and while they destroyed me on the straightaways, I was keeping up perfectly on the turns and short straights! This car absolutely flies!

If you drop in a 3 cell lipo you will be able to keep up with the nitro cars. I have the 8000kv motor and it is really fast on a 6 cell NiMh, when you drop in the lipo it is crazy-fast. Sounds like a jet taking off and if I had a large enough space to get it to full speed I think that it would lift-off. Your 6800kv motor should be about the same if you went up one tooth on the pinion.

You can get a one way for the front which will increase your turn in, and increase top end a tiny bit. The downside is its harder on your drivetrain, especially your front axles as since its not a diff, the feedback is more pronounced on the axles. You also loose front braking, which means it will take longer for the car to slow down.

Wow, I just checked out that Castle Link - awesome!! Thanks for that info! Although, the website says that support for the Mamba 25 is "coming soon", which seems odd to me, since the controller has been out for years, and was recently discontinued. Have they just forgotten to update the website?

Mamba 25 firmware and software have changed many times. The Castle Link is up to date, you won't regret it.
