Anyone help? have an old XRAY T1 Evo 2. have a 86 (I think) spur with a 28 pinion. Have just about burnt a TS1 motor (well my son has!) in the space of a couple of weeks and needfs a skim and new brushes. Any ideas re: appropriate gear set up? Is it under/over geared. Much obliged.

Brendan, I am assuming the transmission ratio on this particular Xray is 2.125. That being the case you have an FDR of 6.53. If you are on a really tight twisty asphalt track that might be a bit high. Next time grab the motor when your son finishes and if you can hold it for 5 secs you are OK, if you scream and drop the car immediately you need to lower your gearing :D
