Ive meant to do this for a while now but only just found out how to post it.
The steering mod has often been talked about either on the forum or on set up sheets hopefully these pictures make it clearer.


Hub is dremeled, also area where nut under ball stud touches wishbone. +1 hex used to give clearance on wishbone, you will need to dremel top of wishbone so that hub does not bind, also end of wishbone so inner part of wheel webbing clears. I do not take any material off the composite caster hubs.

On steering slider dremel a small amount off this where it touches servo saver, where ive dremeled on mine is 5.5mm. Make sure you put curves on it as it reduces stress areas. This part allows for a more equal steering lock.

Under side of upper wishbone mount, dremel area where lock nut on slider touches, again this alows for more movement.

It is difficult to give measurements, its just a mod that takes a little time & patience. The benifit is it gives more steering lock which helps the car pivot quicker on slow tight turns. Ive run this mod for well over a year now on the XB8EC with no part failures. For the XT8 I only dremel a small amount on the ali knuckle as if you take off to much the wheels rub on the turnbuckle ball joint.

both these show dremel work to arm but also area near drive shaft.

On mine arm thickness is roughly 5.0mm .

dremel work to end of wishbone.

How much you take of is down to what you feel comfortable with, as i said earlyer these ones are over a year old & have done a race meeting nearly every weekend, so prove they are strong enough.

The pictures are of my EC. All i did on my XT8 was to take a little off the ali hub, You will get to a point where it rubs on the ball joint & will eventually wear right through, so go carefull on how much you remove.

Jason, just a 1/2 inch dia drum sander, by it being quite large it puts a nice radius so you get less stress area. If you try to use a grinding stone the ali will impregnate & clog it leaving in knackered & a real pain to clean up.

After talking to Brennan and recieving some more detailed info i to did the mod ( not as radical as Brennan :o ) but what i tought would be suitable for my driving. I was very happy with the results and i didn't had a faluire from the mod all Season ( only failure were driver failures :P )
I found the combination on my TQ Dremel mod and EC lower arms more than satisfying results regarding the steering lock, i also use the 38th Spur in front and i think this helps also. Thnx for the feedback it's a big help.
