could some one explain the term loomy and blown out regarding track condition
would any one have a link to explain dirt track conditions from grass through soil to clay.
Im trying to find grip for my ec on three different tracks around queensland australia. And since 80% of setup is tyres im trying a few.

I'll try to explain the dirt, as I haven't run on grass...

If your track looks like this, above, it's like a light layer of 'loam' or loose dirt over the actual track surface, when wet, it yeilds a lot of track and some cool rooster tails, but as it dries it becomes a pain in the butt... When wet a larger tread on the tire work best to 'bite' into the loam.




This is a clay track, very little to no dust on the surface, feels sticky/moist to the touch. This yeilds a lot of traction when a lot of cars run on and it and lay down rubber causing a 'blue grove' when tires with smaller tread generally work better. [See pic below for example of blue groove] The dark groove around the corner, drive on that!



If a track is blown out, it usually means the end of all fun, haha, and it looks kind of like this, super bumpy and it forces you to race the track, not other drivers... You can pretty much do what you want with your car/tires and it's still no fun, but for some weird reason this is the track of choice in the US..........

Bosh got no pictures but can explain what tyres we use in the uk as we run on a real variety of tracks from grass, astro turf & dirt tracks.

Basics on fresh grass track will give its most grip for the first couple of rounds as the grass has intertwinned as its grown, as the races progress the tyres act like a comb & the grass will straighten out & from that point begin to be ripped out buy the tyres leaving the corners bald & the acceleration areas rutty. In years gone buy we run medial pro turbo rats as they were a safe option but tend to wallow around. Now days we run hoboa angle spikes as the forward traction & side bite is unmatched on new grass, Because of grip roll or traction roll in the dry we cut off the inner & outer row on the fronts & outer row on the rears but that is down to you to find your balance. As the track starts to blow on the corners found the losi step pin tyres then take over.

Astro turf if its wet hoboa angle all the time, you can run them in the dry beut need to trim the spikes alot to stop grip roll but again forward traction is un matched. Safer options in the dry proline bowties M2 or Panther komodo dradon 2's in soft, just depends on length of astro turf pile sounds daft but it makes a real difference.

For Dirt as rocco said hole shot, crime fighter & bowties you wont go far wrong there, & dont be scared to run the harder XTR you will be supprised at the grip they give & they dont fade as much in the long finals
