XRAY - Model racing cars

i just noticed that it has play in it. the whole tube assembly slides like 1 or 2mm on the post which lets the ackerman plate move up and down and then transfers the play to the front knuckles. are other people noticing this or just me?

I just had the same problem in my XB8 EC and XT8 i had to shim the top under the front plate to remove this slop, I wonder if a flaw is getting through the machining side of things....

Any mods add to this

Its normal and has to be like this or the steering assembly will bind and the servos wont be able to recenter. I tried the shim and quickly realized how much it caused it to bind so I left it alone and all is well.

With the car off the ground and the wheels spinning you will notice about 1-2mm movement back and forth due to this loose fitting and the servo fighting to center it.

Actually this is very minimal play and I can assure you this since the Losi guys at my track cant believe how tight mine is compared to theirs. THey have a crazy amount of slop which I would guess to be about 6mm or more movement side to side in the ackerman.

Just a tip for you guys is to add a small smear of grease to those metal bushings that hold the ackerman since when you use loctite on those screws some likes to get on the bushing and it will bind up. The grease will help it move smoothly and keep that locite from gunkingn up in there.

i just went to a friends a got a few 6mm shims for it. he had an old hyper 7 buggy on his bench so i grabbed the servo saver on it and it had play just like my xt8? oh well!

I shimmed mine a bit, to reduce some of the bump steer from it floating up and down. Not tight, but just enough to allow a bit of play. easy fix if you feel it is needed.
