Tell you what, I think they snap because of the mad flex of the XT8 chassis.


And why, oh why, do they have to turn down that perfect 8mm shaft anyway???
Somebody please explain this to me. You have a fat 8mm shaft, and then they have to turn it down to a weak 5mm where it attaches to the driveshaft. I don't get it.
Weak by design IMO. Might work for a buggy though, but obviously not for a fat Truggy.

At first I thought it's the excessive torque of my brushless powerplant, but I soon had to admitt it must be the rubberband of a chassis, flexing. I solved it with an additional plate on the chassis.

Ive got one just like it , So its not just me with the problem.
what did you add to stiffen up the chassis. Have you had any problems with the rear gear.

i've snapped like 4 of them! but i've installed the aluminum rear brace now and haven't had any problems for while. mine snapped in the same place as yours. still handles as good with the al. brace so no probls there.

I haven't looked at the rear one to be honest. So far it survived, only the front one for me.

The extra plate on the chassis runs from under the steering servo, to under the center diff and to somewhere near the rear chassis brace. Stiffens up the chassis real good, and it's still easy to remove for extra traction on flat tracks.
Now my XT8 is just as stiff (or as soft) as a Losi or a Jammin. Before the plate it felt way too flexy, noticeably softer than any other truggy I tried to flex by hand.

edit: the alu chassis braces was the first thing I got after I compared the flex to other truggies... still was not happy with it.

Looks like i need to invest in some ali braces . i was told to stay with the kit composite braces as the ali ones make it to stiff and it runs better with more flex in the chassis

Andy, Thanks for the offer but as i live in kent its would be a bit of a run to come up to you.
When i was first Looking at the XT8 i was very impressed with its overall build quality & not requiring lots of extras like most kits which was why i bought it, Im just not happy with this bevel gear breaking after only half a gallon of fuel through it.
Im only racing at club level just for a bit of fun but i dont want to start spending money on the car after every race meeting because things have broken.
Hopefully this is a one off & i can have some fun.
