Well if I had bought all the stuff I just did and was a first time nitro owner I know for a fact that I would have ruined some expensive stuff.
Not only that I would have been in big trouble during the build since even though the directions are the best you will find there are things that you need to understand from experience.
Just do like me and ask tons of questions and you will learn as much as you are willing to. I hate people who say not to buy this or that if you are a newbie since I a person that takes their time and does things right. So dont think I am trying to scare you off but I am trying to save you a buck or two.
All engines are equally complicated and I wouldnt say one is hard to learn on vs the other but some are better at holding a tune and setting it in the first place. The issue is how you treat the motor during break in procedure and how you tune it so that you dont go killing a $500 Nova motor due to user error.
This is why I suggest back yard bashing with an OS VG that costs $150 USD and will be a great buy for the price from what I have heard. You will use the same JP3 pipe with it so all you are doing is possibly killing a motor 1/4 the cost of the one you are thinking of getting. Buy both if you wish and once you have learned on the VG keep it as back up but atleast you will learn on something much cheaper.
There are too many little things that I cant tell you I have never read about or that people havent told me. Heck, look at this stupid $100 pipe I have that everyone said was so great then when I come back and post here that its crap I get replies stating that yeah they are fragile, lol.
As for break in there are many things that you will have to learn in your tune assuming that you broke it in properly in the first place. If you tune wrong or get trigger happy you can kiss the life of your new motor good bye reagardless of how much it cost.
PS here is one little story for you. My Revo had a nice RB TM523 motor in it that was my second motor and I figured it was time to pay a bit more and figured I knew my way around nitro enough to care for it. I dont think I hurt it at all but my nice new $100 temp gun has a laser pointer on it that takes surface temps. Well I wasnt aware that when used up close that where the laser is and where the temp is being read from are not the same. Therefore I was taking temp readings off the top of the cool head while the laser was pointed on the glow plug. I tunned for this and couldnt figure out why the temps were so low and I had no power so I leaned it out and started relying on my ears more and realized it was much too lean. Once I figured out how the temp gun worked I was pissed that I ran my nice new motor lean like that for a few tanks.
Any way get what will make you happy but there are too many things that you arent going to read on here that you will learn. You dont want it being on a $500 novarossi in my opinion.
