XRAY - Model racing cars

I thought I was the only one with this problem. I've yet to drive my buggy yet all 3 diffs drained once from when I had originally built the car. I refilled them and made sure all of the screws on each diff were tight. The car has been sitting at home for the past month (no time for it being away at school). I am really hoping I don't come home to 3 empty diffs. Unless I am missing something, I built them exactly like I've done several Kyosho diffs; none of which leaked. Has anyone tried longer screws yet? It seems like the 10 or 12mm screws are a little short and may not be exerting enough pressure.

The diff cases and the outer gear have a very tight tolerance. Most likely you didnt seat the case all the way into the gear and that would be why the oil leaked out and the screws seemed to short. You need to tighten each screw very lightly alternating between the screws. This will gradually seat the gear into place and you defintely shouldnt have any leaking while the buggy is just sitting there. Another way to tell if the gear is completely seated is to spin the diff in your hands holding the two out drives. Keep your eye on the gear and see if it wobbles. If so, it isnt tightened all the way.

I used grease as well, but I didn't redo them for 3 gallons and they were dry. I clean the car after everyday of running. But I ran so many gallons through the car in the first 2 weeks that it didn't seem that long on the diffs but in reality it was. After a half gallon they still look fine but my chassis has gunk on it in the diff cases. It is fairly normal burn off rate if you ask me.

But there is no burn off rate. Diffs shouldn't leak and if yours are then eventually they will empty, dry up and grind the gears. IMO take more care of em (unless youre sponsered and theyre free).
