Hi. i have a question about the shock piston for a Xray xb 8 tq. what kind of piston can i use. With or a without dot on the piston. In the instruction manual says not dot, but later in the manual is also listed up with dot and the settings for both of them.Can i use both :?:

The pistons without the dot are straight hole, while the pistons with the dots are conical so you will have to pay attention to the orientation when using these. I prefer the straight pistons without dots.

Feel free to check out my setup for the TQ!

I hate to go against what Rocco says but you gotta try the conical "down" pistons! With the small part of the cone facing the top of the shock so the compression stroke is like a standard straight hole piston but the shock rebounds quicker to keep your tires in contact with the surface. I keep pushing these but it seems I'm the only guy who runs them. Around here anyways.

And another thing about the TQ, it seems to like a "stiffer" suspension. Other buggies wanna be softened up with 1.5 holes and 25 and 30W oils. Where as my TQ wants 1.4 or 1.3 holes and 50W+ oils with at least the light blue springs. Well, IME anyways :) It's wierd! When I tell non--XRay people my setup they look at me with a funny expression on their face. But they understand when I duck inside of them in the corners :D LOL!!

"80W/70W oils with 1.4 and 1.3 conical pistons?! OOOOO-Kaaaay." :shock:

Don't be afraid to experiment! There's so much adjustability that there's a setup in there for everyone. Ya just need to be patient enough to find it and willing to tweak your suspension geometry. A lot of people around here really only change the shock and diff oils. No anti-squat, kickup, shock angles etc. Even caster adjustments of Mugen style buggies are usually left alone! It's one reason that XRay isn't as popular around here as it should be because, for our tracks, the out of the box setup leaves a LOT to be desired on both the buggy and truggy. Well OK not so much the truggy. :)

Track design and driving style is what is going to dictate your setup. I get asked my setup all the time but I tell most unless you drive just like me it wont work for you. As said above dont be afraid to try different settings and finding what works for you....

Whats left to be desired out of the box?

Your not saying the XB8 isnt as good as Mugen and Kyosho are you?

I decided after tons of reading to go with the XB8 since it seems like you are getting alot more for the money then paying for Kyoshos name and getting all plastic parts.
