Broken teeth on Bevel Gear front diff

Yesterday I was about mounting the I.S.S. set on my XT8, when I saw some metal in my front diff housing. I inspected the Bevel Gear and found that three teeth were broken off.
When building the car I was very cautious to shim the front diff properly, but still something went wrong..

The car: Xray XT8
The Engine: OS Engine Max-30VG(P)
Clutchbell : 15 teeth

Doese anyone have any idea what could happend? What can I do to avoid this problem in the future?
And is there any warranty on damage like this??

Bart, it looks like there are teeth marks on the side of the diff cup,,are those marks all the way around the cup??

maybe shimmed to tight after it warmed?

if you over tighten 1 diff cup screw it will chip gears due to the deflection in the ring gear which closes or opens the gap between pinion and ring gear. The reason I type this is because the broken teeth look to be right next to a screw hole in the gear.

he isnt the first one to have this issue. i built mine tryed to shim it but was to tight so i didnt... i ran 1 tank in the back yard and it started making a crunching sound pulled it apart and 3 teeth missing off bevel gear. And its not as though i built t wrong as this is the 4th XRAY i have built. i put a new one in and its still going now and i done it the same way.

hi fellas,

MBXB8: i broke a bevel gear today. like you i've had several xrays and never had this happen. i actually snapped mine right where the cvd attaches. other than that the truck is solid!

yer the only wayi picked it up was when i was braking it was making a clicking noise i thought was strange :shock:
