Hi all,
Can somebody give a fairly straightforward answer as to when you would use a short or a long camber link, and what effects this would make to each end of the car in real life rather than in theory. Also, what sort of weather conditions would you most likely use that length of link in - i.e long link wet weather.
I've read through the setup book, and it seems to only skip over this area, rather than explain it in cause and effect terms like the other adjustments.
I appreciate this is quite a complex subject, but it must be able to be generalised to some degree. Would I be right in assuming longer links make more traction/grip?, would you mix short and long links at each end of the car?
Many thanks for any help
Phil

I'll have to leave the best explanation up to Tonyv. :D

From my understanding, shorter links make that end of the car more responsive to direction changes. Longer links smooths out the transitions and brings more stability.

From a technical standpoint, shorter links will increase the camber gain as the chassis rolls over to the side.

I'm also interested in understanding this better.

Tony,
I did read that thread earlier, but it only seems to deal with the front in the responses to the questions. I was thinking more about when you would use long links on the rear, and what effect using the rear upright position 2 and quick roll centre positions 1 or 3 would have. You can only lengthen the front links at the quick roll centre mounts, but you can extend both ends on the rear.
We are doing a lot of wet running outside at the moment, and I'm looking for ways to smooth out the agressive rear end, without making to many changes to the base setup, which works well in the dry.
Many thanks
Phil

You might also try going down on the caster some. What caster do you run now? If it works, you may be able to keep the short links up front for quicker steering.

Ackerman is kit at moment but tried position 1 on the steering block which made it very nervous and twitchy. I was going to try 2 degree blocks at this fridays meet. We are running 4 degree less .75 degree anti dive - this has made a difference - maybe the extra degree is the answer.
Thanks for all the input guys, will try a few things and let you know.
