How should a tyre look like after a 30-45 minutes main? Should it be almost bald ? Also .... the "balooning" effect ....does it help the car to accelerate ?

Well, it depends on the track surface and what compound tire your using, some wear faster than others. 30-45 minute mains you will see some wear....but that's with all tires though

Personally(my opinion) It's ok for a little ballooning/hyperflex, I don't like a lot of it, it tells me that it's diff'ing out....meaning not all the power is being transferred to the ground equally I may be right/ or i may be wrong....maybe someone else knows more maybe some could correct me if I'm wrong...

hope this helps

If ballooning was that bad our tyres would all be belted. Of course you don't want too much ballooning during cornering and accelerating, but on the straights it really helps with the top speed I think.

Dont like the balloning on the straights or anywhere. your tire contact patch goes from 80-90% down to (guessing) 10-15%.

Puts the buggy or truggy on a razor edge ice skate.

But, its one of those things that you cant really get away from.

Crasher, I allways put two holes in my tyres, one on each side of the tyre opposite of each other. And I cover the holes that are in the wheel. I do this because dirt will get into the tyre from the holes inside the rim and by cutting the holes in the tyre it flings dirt away from the tyre and the foams can still breathe inside.

I heat up a brad nail red hot and make a couple holes opposite each other on the tire. hot nail will vulckanize (sp?) the rubber around the hole so it wont tear. do this trick with the foams out.

I also cover the rim vent holes.

Just get one of these bad boys and done! I have mine on the middle setting which is around 1/8" and 2 holes as Jason says in buggy tires, and I put three 3/16" holes in my truggy tires.

Yeah, it may hinder your top end, but ballooning is not the best thing to do. Just like Keith said, it's taking the tire out of the equation which is never a good thing, without traction the car can't do anything...

I belted some tires with the Fiber thread packing tape to reduce the ballooning. I found some tape that had the thread running both directions on the tape. tried overlapping the ends, no good, it still pulled apart once the tire got warm. Tried a dot of superglue where the ends overlap,, still no good, the tape ends stayed together but once the tire warmed and softened the tape glue, it came apart and caused a severe out of balance situation due to the ring of tape wadding up apparently.

I gave up on that whole theory and just went to using a Ballistic batterys wheel and tire balancer. The tires still balloon, but now they are a even, balanced,,,cookie cutter  .
