nah its not worth going to xray pinions really, the pinions are all exactly the same. I think the problem is that you are not meshing them tight enough, as i think the lowest that you can fit on and still mesh correctly is an 18 tooth, i think you need to change your spur and pinion so that you get the same overall ratio but so they can mesh better. But theres a good chance all this is wrong.

@Vesa: There isnt much play in the motor rotor. I usually give more gear mesh then less. I also installed the pinion 'normally', that is with the pinion screw on the motor side, so i dont think it is possible for the pinion to touch the spur gear.

@maxch: In my experience, some pinions 'mix' better with some spurgears than others. No ideia why, but if you look closelly at pinions from diferent brands, you will notice some diferences in design.

I couldnt find xray pinions at LHS, so i went with the one i had. After the first round, it all seems a less noisy. Its a new motor on new car with new pinion.

I guess they just needed to be broken in. The BL system is somewhat noisy to, maybe that contributed to my impression.

BTW, although the basic setup was completely off for the track conditions, just loved the car Im in love

You are right that brushless is more noisy than brushed motor but I do not care if it is noisy, most important is that it is fast.

btw, do you drive indoor or outdoor? It seems that you are using big pinion because I use for 4.5 BL motor pinion 14

the problem is not the pinions, all of them are correct.

the problem is the angle between the teeth. the module 48 is the same. but if you have to put 15 teeth in that amount to space in a regular way you have to "open" the angle, the results, as you can see, is the noise.

so, do ot worry about it, when you use 14T pinions or so, noise will came... but it is normal( although you dont have attached properly the pinion to the spur gear...)
