Hi all.

Was wondering if there was guide lines you should follow for the gearing.

I'm running indoors on polished floor.

My rollout is currently (if i've done it right) - 1.249.

Tyre circumference is - 8.031.
Total Gear reduction is - 6.429.
Spur (87)/Pinion (23) gear reduction is - 3.782.
Internal reduction - 1.70

My motor and speed controller was running very hot! I'm sure i've got the gear ratio too small.

Any help would be great guys.

Cheers.

Lee

what tyres are you running on, and depending on the answer to that, how much grip do you have.....
i used to race on wood with a t27 type tyre great for drifting and still a little grip. i used to run very over geared to keep the motor cooler it also gave me great speed through out the drift and on to the straight,,,,

Jeez guys, thanks for the tips.

I admit i'm a bit of a drifter too. What i have noticed that with turning the left doesnt come out as easy as the the right. The front only had a couple of mil droop so i removed it all. Seems to have helped as my car was pushing through the exit when i accel away whereas now shes actually turning.

Thanks again guys, gonna take it all on board, have a gander at the webby and have a good old fiddle.

Cheers.

ok, according to that gear chart website my gear ratio is - .45 .
the roll out is - 454.37

Is there a guide line that your meant to roughly stick too?

Cheers in advance

Ohh, i've got a 27t pinion but it wont fit with my 87t spur, they mesh too close together.

Is that an upgrade gear kit or something you have Andyw?

when i run my T2 i would run an 84 spur with the biggest pinion that wil fit been a while but think 26 pinion .....

when i run my T1 i would run 84 spur with 30 or 32 pinion the advantage of using the T1 is i can run a larger pinion

really i dont think that you should even be looking at rollout. if you where carpet or asphalt racing then its the best way to be aware of what the other drivers are running. but when running on wood or drifting this is not important.
just try over gearing the motor to the highest gear you can fit and try it, because of the lack of grip the motor will feel less resistance to spooling up resulting in less heat. unlike on carpet where the grip will cause more resistance, hence heat and the need to balance gearing to get the best efficency.....

when you setup your car just make sure every thing is flat and level and adjusted equally or it will show in the left or right turns being different to control. once every thing is setup and level you can then work on dialing in to loose understeer or too much oversteer.....

hope this helps......
