XRAY - Model racing cars

I might be wrong but I think these were made especially for carbon, fiberglass, epoxy or ferodo disks where you do use them directly on the disc. I can't imagine steel on steel working good (on anything other than trains) though so I guess you still need the brake pads.

Thought that was the case but not found any xray discs to use with these on their own.

You use the hardened ones the same as the stock ones. They just help prevent bending and wear. If you are using aftermarket brakes like the Avid Indos then these are recommended because the extra force puts more stress on them.

Don't bother with the Avid brakes. I've been using them for a while and am going back to the hardened plates, ferodo pads, and standard brake discs.
The Avid's are fine but they aren't consistent and need to be cleaned on a regular basis to maintain performance. To me they don't offer a lot of braking feel.
The STR brakes pads/plates are also an option if they come pre bonded to the plates that is a plus in my opinion.
Yes you would gain something in the acceleration department but you will give it away and then some with the fiber brakes at every corner entry as they aren't consistent over a long run in my opinion.
Some people may really like the fiber brakes but after an entire season I'm going to change back.

Around here we run glassfiber discs, cheap as instant noodles, immune to spilled fuel, less rotating mass, no need for the ferodos, instant braking feel and more agressive all in all.

When ran enough just change them and blam your brakes work like a charm again, or show them some fine sanding paper every once in a while to keep em fit.

Just regular electric-use fiberglass (can't remember the word for the plate you solder your transistors,leds etc. on) well anyways, its the same stuff.

With steel you have small fade before the brake, with fiber the brakes hit instantly. In my local track we have tight corner behind fast and big double-jump, and some fine dust gathers in there... if your brakes dont go like blam, your out of the driving line and slipping in the loose stuff.

Anybody try this brake disk? Progressive brake disc manufactures in titanium for Mugen and X-Ray. It has been design permits to the brake pads be clean obtaining the progressive brake action.
