Hey,

Im having trouble finding an engine, thats not bump start, that will fit in the XB8TQ. I had a Hyper 21 8-Port P/S, but it didnt fit because the engine mounts hit the backplate.

Anyone know of different mounts I can buy? Different methods of mounting? A roto-start or torque starter system, that will fit into the bay without grinding stuff down?

I would like some suggestions if you have em, on a good solid .21 engine, preferably shaft or torque start. I got a Jammin X1 thats torque start, and I like it so much better than a bump start.

The XB8 line of buggies are top-end race buggies, therefore are/were not designed to be used with the torque/shaft start mechanisms. I think Tiger-Drive makes some type of starting unit that you can mount onto many different engines and statr with a hex drive system; not sure though as I only use bump-start type engines as they are far more reliable.

Havent read of anyone using a shaft start on a XB8. The Tiger drive setup would probably be the best bet as you can have the start socket of the drive mechanisim mounted a number of different ways.

I think you are going to be back to the PS style backplate hitting the engine mounts.

A few bucks, some head scratching, and some dremel work will probably make it work somehow.

Want a good reliable engine that works well in this car? Try an RB Concept S5, add a Nova Pro cooling head and get a Mugen Pro starter box. Excellent combination.
Once you start racing and have a one way bearing lock up on you ending a race you'll forget all about the tiger drive and roto start back plates. Plus an engine with a backplate has more positive crankcase pressure and performs better.....it also has less rotating mass so it revs faster as well.

Thanks for the info guys.

Just had some bad luck with a Collari B3, that was so tight.. that it unscrewed the flywheel nut when I was trying to start it.

If the flywheel nut unscrewed when you were trying to start it, then it wouldhave likely backed off on you as well while running...

Having the flywheel properly installed on your engine is absolutely critical, whether it is bump, pull, or roto start.

I have been running a OS V-Spec and beleive this to be the best engine that I have ever owned. Plenty of low end torque and top end, plus this engine is nothing but quality. It idles perfectly and require very minimal tuning. Just a pleasure to own. Use the T2050 pipe with this engine. As far as starter boxes I recommend the Mugen Purple alunimum box for 1/8 scale nitro. I actually use a OFNA box but my buddy has a mugen and it is light, powerful and compact and works perfectly with the XB8.

Rosco, apply a small dab of blue loctite to the threads of the crank before installing the clutch nut.
