Guys,

I'm at the point in building my XB8TQ where I'm setting up the throttle and braking linkage. I'm using an OS 21VZ-B V-Spec engine alomg with a Spektrum radio. I'm somewhat confused as to how the throttle and brake work together...

The way I have it setup now, when I press the throttle trigger, the carb opens wide. When I press forward on the trigger, the servo wont move in the opposite direction. I also assume that pressing forward would activate the brake? So, do I have this setup wrong, and if so, what is the proper orientation?

was the servo on when you put on the arm? could be that you have it all the way to one side or on your radio your endpoints may not be centered. i think i used the right terminology but not sure.

just check to make sure your throttle servo is centered with the radio trims before you put the arm on, and make sure your throttle and brake end points are set in the radio also correctly. What servo are you using on throttle?

And also make sure the carb is correctly installed.

Just take a break from building your TQ, come back, and follow the instructions word for word. They will show you how to set them up correctly.

Thanks guys, I'll check the radio settings next. The one thing that has me bothered is that the servo works fine when I detatch the linkage. When I connect everything, I only get movement in one direction, which would be to open the throttle.

check your throttle linkage spring make sure it is not to tight also make sure your throttle and brake trim is correct on your radio and set at a 100% both ways for know.

I suspect it may be the spring, but can't seem to find a way to reduce the tension on it. I've moved the set screw up and back but then loose some travel on the carb...

Going to the basement right now to check the radio setup.

you get movement to open the throttle, then nothing? does the servo return to center when you release the trigger,,then no brake throw when you try.

The pictures are a little fuzzy but the linkages look ok too me. You do know that the brake direction isn't supposed to move nearly as much as the throttle direction right?

If you turn the radio and receiver off, can you move the servo horn by hand? If not, something in the linkage is wrong. If you can, then there is a problem with your radio or servo or its settings.
