Been searching for this thread, as it was the decider for my Xray purchase..

I'll be honest I'm not a Racer, I'm a pure basher ...

I have the XB8R and let me tell you since I purchased it I have broken :-

Front Diff Bulkhead
Servo saver posts both of them! at once
Rear Lower suspension holder rear
Front Upper arm right
Front Bumper

Other than that, a bunch of other stuff, that aint Xray related ...

I would have to say the weakest part of the car is the front bulkhead, with a hard hit on the front, the front Bulkhead screws will slowly come loose, and if not looked at, will cuase much more damage.

The Manual claims using 4M x 10mm - I would stress that the 12mm is a much better option.

Also, the Rear suspension pins take a beating, I have replaced so many circlips its not funny, I would love to see a better solution for that ...

But I love my Xray, it is the best buggy I have ever bashed ... I would not trade it for a thing ...Except maybe a Xray Truggy ... !!!

Do the Diff Bulkheads come in Aluminium ???

Edited: Please refrain from using profanity in posts.

If I remember correctly, you were running the XB8R with some insane Novarrossi 8 port engine in the street and not on a track. I don't think any car can take a full speed hit into concrete without breaking or bending something on the front end.

I've been racing my XB8TQ all summer and have yet to brake not one part! I haven't noticed any slop or wear yet either except for the clutch shoes and springs which is pretty amazing. The only thing I have had to replace was the clutch bearings but that was after 2 gallons and I was having problems with the engine which most likely caused the bearings to fail.

Yes very true, I did do my first bashing in a car park, soon learnt that this was harsh on the car, plus the motor does not help either.

I have been taking it out on the dirt, and most of the breakages happened then, but I suspect this was the aftermath of the concrete bashing.

After the rebuild, I have only taken it out on the track ... and Yes have not broken a thing. The cluthc Bearings would be due to the output of the novarossi. I did break make exhaust, but that was RB. Other than that the car has held together very well, at one stage I think I achieved around about 200 or so cartwheels, and nothing was broken, or loose ...

Its a pretty amazing car ....

And yes its never going to see concrete again ...
Even a BMX track is to harsh on the car ... The jumps are just way too big.

Clutch bearings are a constant maintenance point on all 1/8 buggies.
It's normal for them to last 1 to 3 gallons depending on how much maintenance you do. So if they blow after two gallons, it's normal. Clutch bearings take a lot of abuse, but last pretty long if shimed correctly. 8)

Yeah I already knew that. It was the same thing on my other buggy I used to run. I'm running ceramic clutch bearings now so hopefully they will last longer. I'm hoping for 4 gallons a pair.

I was breakin-in my motor when I decided to go WOT with bald tires . . it just caught so much traction it bolted from a stand point at which point I lost control and smack dead center into a thick PVC pipe covering the phone line, the pipe have a whole with the shape of the bumper one inch thick . . no cracks on the buggy just the usual scratch.
