How are these expensive universals holding up compared to other buggies universals and cvds? How many gallons are you guys averging on them?

I ask becuase I'm waiting to buy a new XB8 TQ but have a hard time with $45 for a single spare universal. What other spares besides arms do you recommend for the TQ?

They last a LONG time. I practice once a week and race just about every weekend. Can't even count the gallons I've got on the buggy and I still have the original uni's through-out. My drivepins need to be replaced, but the joint has hardly any slop. You'll be pleased :D.

Yes considering how much strain these universals go through they hold up very well. I have about 5 gallons on my XB8 in the last 3 months and they are still in great shape.

You can find universals in pairs on eBay. I just picked up a set of 4 for 100 bucks. Xray has also recently dropped their prices on pretty much everything for 2006 so some pricing may still be off.

The street price for the universals are $29.50 now.

On my last buggy I had 30 gallons on them with only changing the drive pins once. The had some slope, but considering the amount of abuse they take I dont think this is too bad.

As far as spare parts, if your going to a race were parts arent availible than I would say maybe take arms, turnbuckles, c-hubs, rear hub carriers, steering blocks. That would be the most common thing to break if you take a hit from someone or land wrong.

I have only seen 2 arms break in the last 2 years, turnbuckles would be the most common thing.

So basically they don't really break or bend under race conditions and there is no need for a bunch of spares?

To back up Extreme R/C I had about 15 gallons on my first XB8 and never wore the pins enough to warrant replacement or bent/broke the driveshafts.

As far as replacements, I would agree with the parts Extreme listed; arms (I've only broken 3 front arms ever, this buggy is VERY resilient) turnbuckles, C-hubs, steering blocks, rear hubs, and most of all the 352315 (pins holders).

Excellent! I will be picking up a new XB8TQ as soon as I can find stock again.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and spare parts lists. This forum alone is almost enough reason to go xray :)

The only other things i would add to the list are a full set of pivot pins, and a set of shock shafts. I've bent/broke a few pins, i've never broken a shock shaft ( on my XB8 ), but it only takes one good placed hit from another buggy to snap one.

Original uni's in mine too, still lookin good.

I agree about the arms, they are super strong, i have only broken one front arm after over 15 gallons (maybe more, i've lost count too).

Maybe a set of knuckles, i split one in a hard crash, may wanna get a set just in case. Havn't broke one since, and it was a really nasty crash, whern i first got the buggy. They are super strong as well though.

Definitely carry a few extra upper a-arms as well. I've split 2 since I've had my XB8 (about 9 months).
