I bought an XB8R kit that was already built but never ran. Do I have to disassemble the car to grease the CVD cups as described in the Tech tips section for the XB8R kit? Does it matter if the diffs were filled to 80% instead of the 50% described in the tips section? What other things may the original builder NOT KNOWN to do? Thanks for reading.

I would think that diffs should be inspected and refilled, that way you know what viscosity you are running. The rest of the car is in the open, and should be easy to spot any areas of concern.

p.s. are you from Ottawa, Ontario? If so what track are you going to be running at?

Yes I am from Ottawa. I am finding more little things wrong on the kit, so I will tearing it down completely and rebuilding from scratch. I apprreciate the answers so quickly, and will appreciate more help as I build this bad boy. I hope to be racing in Gatineau and Ottawa soon. Grayalf

My LHS recommends NOT greasing the CVD coupling pins, but to USE locktite as described. I guess this is something of contention between various drivers and Engineers. I wonder what are the pros and cons like sand and dirt sticking to the shafts due to excess grease, vs clean shafts that wear too soon because they have no lube.

What Mario Hudy would you say is the life expectency for greased vs. NON-greased coupling pins on a new set of CVD's. I am sorry to be so complicated, but this is the part I LOVE... the details. Thank you for all that read this post.

A light coating of grease for the moving parts....not a slathering of grease to attract and hold dirt and grime....

You're looking to lubricate the areas of metal to metal contact.

Try greasing as per the instructions, but wiping off excess that oozes out upon assembly so you don't have the huge gobs of excess and you should have the best of both worlds 8)

I know Ralph and Mark run the 'dry' lubricant White Lightening (mountain bike chain lube) on their 1/8 onroad drive shafts, because of its dry/waxlike state it wont hold/attract dirt like the 'wet' lubricants.
