I got the engine to stop leaking by sealing the backplate, carb and the exhaust manifold. And then put a exhaust extender on the muffler and no leaks.
The exhaust tip will dribble oil out and down the pipe and with the vibration of the engine it spreads everywhere. This issue is solved just try the exhaust tip and see what happens.I had no oil mess after 3 tanks :wink:also make sure the exhaust tip is pointed down.

This message has been edited to reflect that my cars are fixed and I no longer have a issue infact I changed fuelto 16% nitro and added a exhaust extender and no more oil on the chassis

phatmonkey,

If I remember your situation correctly, you sent us two motors that you felt were leaking from the front bearing and spreading oil on your chassis. After contacting us by email, we asked you to send us the motors so we can inspect them. Given the nature of leaks and troubleshooting, it is nearly impossible to 'tech' a problem like that over the internet. When we received the two motors from you, we first visually inspected each one for any obvious defect from production. There were none. Next, we took each motor, mounted an NT18 clutch assembly, and mounted them in our NT18 chassis. Each motor was then run through a half tank of fuel and watched closely for any signs of leaks. We did not find any leaks for either one of them.

When we sent the engines back to you, we let you know that we were unable to duplicate any of the leaks you had described, and did not have any oil on the chassis. We also provided you with a number of tips to check if the leak returned later for you, such as checking the carb to crankcase o-ring and also checking that the flywheel and collar were fully seated. Another one of those tips was to inspect the exhaust system to see if excess oil from the exhaust outlet was collecting on the muffler bottom and making its way onto the chassis. We had seen this previously, and it can actually look like a fuel leak. Apparently, this may have helped your situation, as you were able to stop the exhaust oil with the fixes you applied.

I cannot guarantee that those suggestions would work for everyone, or that one of those issues was the source of your original leak, but I think it is a little harsh to say we were no help at all with your situation:( . We cannot diagnose or fix a problem that we did not see, and we went to every length to find it. We also said that if the problem continued once you received the engines back, to let us know, and we would continue to work with you to find the issue. I don't know if we can do much more than that. Maybe your o-ring is working too, but if that is the case, then the problem would not be the bearing itself as this thread has been claiming, and we could be replacing bearings left and right and making no progress for those customers. It does not do XRAY, RC America, or the customer any good to blindly start replacing items if the source of the problem is not known as it may not even fix the issue. Given the thousands of NT18 kits currently being run around the world, the very small(but still important!) sample of people here concerned about leaks, it should show that XRAY has done an excellent job with the engine and that these leaks may be isolated cases or not even from the suspected sources. If something should develop that requires XRAY's attention, I have no doubts that they will do so.

I understand where your comming from. but since there been so many people with the same problem i think your "TEAM" or whoever at xray besides you guys should do a full inspection of motors being used and instead of waiting for people to 'BY CHANCE" have the problem find where it is comming from instead of running an engine for only have a tank without the same driving conditions and i highly doubt he would send to engines from 2 kits back to you for the fun of it. i surely woldn't.

Just wish the bestest luck to everyone having sever blowby.

If you suspect that your nitro engine is faulty and/or has very serious leakage, do not immediately send the engine to your dealer, distributor, or to XRAY for repair or replacement unless instructed to do so. You will need to perform the following initial steps.

1. Take a digital photograph of the engine where it will be clearly visible how much fuel has leaked, and send the photo to info@teamxray.com

2. Indicate the length of time after running that the leakage occurred.

3. Indicate how many times the engine has been run.

4. Indicate if you have broken or damaged the engine, and if so give details.

5. Provide information about the fuel you are using, particularly the percentage (%) of oil in the fuel.

6. Indicate if the leakage occurs immediately after you start the engine
or only after a period of time. If after some time, indicate the length of time after running that the leakage occurs.

7. Indicate if the leaking was present from the first run of the engine or if it started afterwards.

8. Indicate where the leak is coming from. Check that the leak is not simply fuel leaking through the exhaust outlet.

9. Check and advise if the O-ring between carburetor and crankcase seats properly and is in good condition.

10. Indicate if the flywheel and collar are seating properly.

11. Indicate the serial number engraved on the engine crankcase.

12. Indicate the serial number of the kit - printed on the certificate.

13. Provide your full address and daytime and night time telephone numbers as well your e-mail address.

All of this information MUST be e-mailed to info@teamxray.com BEFORE continuing. This information, including the digital photo, will be provided to the engine manufacturer who will advise if the leaking seems to be standard or not, and what steps to take next.
