Your spur wears the fastest??? You must fit the gears too tight!! In my opinion gears in M18 are just perfect!
Perhaps you should ask this question on the M18 forum rather than on general...

I had driven a 300 motor for some time, then I switched to brushless Mamba 5400, I drive the model a lot and see NO WEAR OF SPUR GEAR AT ALL. Even the pinions are very durable given they`re plastic... With high reving brushless motor I have recently started to use 15 T titanium pinion from Micro RS 4 - now the drivetrain is just perfect.

Some M18 owners use Mamba 8000 kV brushless motor (a model equipped with this motor and a 4 cell li-po battery can reach some 100 mph) and I haven`t heard them complaining about the gears - some of them did not even switch factory bevel diffs to ball diffs!!!

In my opinion there`s no need to produce any metal gears (they would only increase the total weight of the model, and the rotating mass in particular), except for the pins.

I use metal pinions. And also have no wear EXCEPT when the motor plate backs off or shifts in. Thats when the damage happens. If you have metal parts and that happened you could possibly ruin your motor or eat your gears because they wouldnt flex. (Also you could possible seaze the motor if a rock got in the spur).

Its really not a good idea for a completely metal drivetrain or even spur.

What xray does need though is a better system to line up the motor to the pinion. One little side "bump", and it can shift. I would rather see a redesign of the motor mount so its more like a rotating cam idea as you see on like a RC10TC3/4. It also would make the motor easier to get in and out as you wouldnt have to take the entire motor mount out.

However, are you the whome from one18th? Aren't you working on one regardless? How about put that CAD time into a CAM motor mount instead? If you made it right, you could even then allow 6 cells side by side on the other side.

I am WhoMe from one 18th, but im not working on making anything like that; dont have that sort of expertise. Im really not so crazy about a metal spur either; but i think derlin would be nice. But as we have discussed on the thread on one18th..spring steel univerals would kick ass espcially with the one-way. Lets see how those jwerks universals work out...but at 25 bucks a pair i wont be getting them too soon. I also agree with the CAM motor mount idea, like on the TC3..now that would be cool.
