XRAY - Model racing cars

It was tried about a year ago by one of the team drivers. Net result was no noticeable improvement, or more to the point a less free drive train as the belts had to be set to a tighter setting to prevent it from skipping. This will especially be a problem indoors on carpet and with hot motors.

The simple recommendation is: "don't do it, we don't".

Exactly. Servicing and cleaning the drive train is crucial for the most free drivetrain. Over the years XRAY has improved all the parts (belts, pulleyes, ratios, etc etc) to the highest possible performance maximum and XRAY cars have had always some of the best and most efficient drive train. It is up to the owner to maintain his car and clean it regularly. Cleaning the bearings is the basic step.

When i built my car, i assembled all the bulkhead at the same time on a very flat surface, as i put in the transmission i made sure the bulkhead screws were not fully tight so the pasrts could settle in place, then turned the car over a few times and tightened the screws up a little at a time.
