You should not be using any other than stock motor with the XMC180 speedo. If you want to use super size motors, then I strongly suggest to get the XMC300 speedo that is designed to well handle any other large motors. Here is link:

Thankyou for the input. I spoke with a representative at X-Ray today and yes, the size of the motor was the problem. With the motor spinning one way (say, reverse) and then changing directions the other way, during the time it takes for the car to change directions, the voltage across the motor is basically the same as a dead short. In my case, the motor was drawing so much current to reverse itself that the ESC was momentarily shutting off. Then, when it powered up again, it would recalibrate it's centre position to whatever the transmitter was broadcasting at that moment. The poor thing just couldn't keep up.

At least that's what the guy at X-Ray that I spoke to thinks.

I went out and purchased a Novak Spy at lunch. Hopefully it will fix the problem as it's rated to handle up to a 280 motor. I could've gone with the XMC300 ESC but it doesn't have reverse, and I kind of wanted that.

I guess the XMC180 will be relegated to duty in my MRS4, which is still running a stock 180 motor on 4 cells. Up until now I've been using an Airtronics ES-01 and, while it's been great, the XMC180 will give me a proper brake and will allow me to go to a 5-cell pack in the future, should I so desire.

I'll let everybody know how I make out with the Spy.

If you look for speedo with reverse, you can then get the XMC300R which handles 300+ motors and has a reverse too.

You need to look for part:
