XRAY - Model racing cars

As the subject says. I want to buy a new motor Lathe. One has the V blocks and one has the ball bearings. Which one would be better? Any comments..

Hi,

Next time you cut a com you should use a pink eraser (like the ones you used in school) and lightly go over the com. this will clean up the com nicely.
if you have light dust on your com after cutting and are taking a light cut you may be below centre with your bit. or you might have a small chip out of the tip of your bit. (a slight possiblitiy). or your bit is not at a 90 degree angle to the com.
a easy way to check to see if your bit is on centre with your com is to take a piece of shim stock (something that is .015 or thicker) an find the centre on it. place the piece of shimstock between thw com and the cutting bit with the markfor the centreline facing the bit. slowly move the bit in until it touches the piece of shim stock on the C/L markand lightly touches the com. let go of the shim stock, and if it is leaning out at the top you need to raise the bit. if it is leaning out at the bottom you need to lower the bit. repat until the piece of shim stock is perfectly straight up and down after repeated tries.

also i was told by a machinist by trade to spray metho over the comm as you are cutting it. what this does is it removes the shavings from the comm, lubricates the comm and the tip, and creates a cleaner cut.

the reason it does a cleaner cut is because the cuttings aren't scrapping the already cut section of the comm, and are therefore not creating a "sandpaper" effect.
