XRAY - Model racing cars

hey guys -

Well I must have been good this year because i received an XB8 for christmas. I've been on these forums several times and have had plans for an XB8 for quite some time - so it was quite a surprise to see one for Christmas! I've been in the hobby for about 5 years and racing 1/8th scale for quite awhile so I am far from a newbie. This looks like a great forum!

Anyway, now to my question. I noticed alot of you have not been installing the o-ring seals in the differential and just wanted to know why not? Thanks!

I think the main reason people don't use the o-rings in the diff spider gears is for consistency. The o-rings can have a tendancy to wear out and change the feel of the diff over time. It is just as easy to get the same feel by using thicker diff fluids instead of the o-rings. I've used them in the past when in a bind, when I didn't have say 10,000 diff fluid on hand but in general, I don't use them either.

I think they also have a tendancy to make the diffs fell a little to "thick". You've probalby noticed that a lot of people like running lighter diff fluids in the XB8, such as 5/5/5 or 5/5/3. The o-rings would just make it harder to get to this softer feel.

the xb8r does not come with rubber o-rings for the spider gears.
