This may have been answered in another thread but I can't find it. I wanted to know what putting shimes under the steering links did, I've seen in on the set-up sheets but didn't know what it did. Thanks, Drew.

It has to do with bump-steer which is the changing of your toe angle as the car goes over bumps which may result in the car being a bit unpredictable. It is more widely used in off-road but can help to some degree on asphalt and carpet.

I don't think I quiet understand here, so putting more shimes on the outter end of the steering link will increase toe-out when the suspension is compressed and puting less shimes on the outter end of the steering link will decrease toe-out when suspension in compressed.

While trying the steps that TeamGP provided in the FAQ section (compressing suspension and measuring toe) you should add shims until the toe is the same (or almost the same) when the suspension is compressed and when it's at rest. Adding shims on the outer link will provide toe-out when suspension is compressed and adding shims on the inner link will provide toe-in when suspension is compressed.

Usually to eliminate bump-steer you just have to add shims to the outer link, but you will have to experiment. You should really try and only add shims to one side though depending on where your toe setting is when compressed in relation to being at rest.

Ok, I measured the toe when the suspension was compressed and it was on 0 degrees and when at rest it was 2 degrees. Would I want to add shimes to out side?
