If you are running on asphalt I would suggest to only put the spool in and start from there. In general on asphalt the FK05 seems to have no noticeable difference in steering or laptimes with the spool in. It will simply become easier to stay consistent but at the cost of some runtime. On asphalt I ran almost the entire season with a spool.

On carpet I never really got the spool to work well. Here it seemed to reduce the consistency and a one-way seemed to work best most of the time.

Sorry it is carpet... (since it is wintertime I don't even think about asphalt :))

Some guys who tested different cars told me the xray is unique which means if you DRIVE it hard it will be slower than when you let it fly  thats more or less in accordance with your statement, with one-way you cannot drive it hard for sure.

thanks Tony

Yesterday I tested the setup with the cut upperdeck... maaaan the car was on rails... I found only one problem: when I hit hard (it happens) the whole car gets tweaked real bad. I see two reason why:
1) two screws are missing from the top deck
2) I use battery brace instead of tape

However the time was not enough to test but I believe the battery brace is the main contributor here. So don't use that thing with this setup...

Other than that the car was awesome (no surprise Martin knows a thing or two about it ;)) I tested it both CS-27 (premount medium insert) and RP-30 (JB blue insert on xray rims - the one which comes with the kit). It was better with the RP's but the CS was close to worn out.

Xray, thanks for the hints - this forum and the whole internet support you have is one of the main reason why I will never even consider to buy an other car.

Yepp, the brace is not binding I've put washers under the stands and checked it. If not the brace then something else is wrong here. Do you guys have any idea how to find out?

Sorry to bring up this old thread, I'm trying to help out a fellow racer who drives an 05 on carpet rubber. I can't locate Martin's article about this modification. Could you please link it here,

Thanks
