This weekend club CAPA (Madrid, Spain) hosted the most important 1/18 race in the spanish history. We( the shop RcRacing) and Xray suported the event and provided gifts for almost every driver.
Two classes on the track, 300 brussed motors and NiMh batts and Brushless LiPo combo. The most of the drivers opted for the brussless choice, thanks of an amazing speed in such a technical lay out.
40 drivers from different spanish regions attended the race with a great level brought by multi National champion Javier Hidalgo or the former TT driver Juanma Alvarez "Mancha".
Tight fights in every 5 minutes run, the best run in each class lets the driver to get the final. The rest of the field will fight in 1/4 and 1/2 to reach a place on the grid, on a gas racing format. In the open class Pablo Olea (myself) got the TQ and was the only driver who reach the 16 laps mark. But more impressive the 300 class TQ driver who got 16 laps a few tenths quicker than me.
Incredible races in every run with a growing level which announced how close should be the action in the finals.
I don´t remember the final results , but I can say the 10 minutes of the 300 class final were amazing from the start to the end. The drivers who battled the lead of the race were in a single second the whole time and just a trouble when overtaking a lap driver made the guy who was leading the leg missing a couple of seconds and was enought to lose the race.
I will explain what I saw in the 15 minutes Open final cose I was driving and focused on my driving more than the real race. I wonder I could get a holeshot from my 1st possition on the grid, but after the tone every driver behind me hit me and after 3 or 4 laps I was in the last possition with a lap less than Juanma Alvarez and just in front of Hidalgo who was second. In the next 10 minutes I was able to push very hard and overtook the lead. With 5 minutes left I was fighting for the 3rd but a lot of troubles of traction rolling started in my car and even lost the 4rd place in the last lap.
The winner was Juanma Alvarez, second Javier Hidalgo and 3rd the young driver R. Royo. 4rd place for my friend Jose Conde, 5th Pablo Olea (me), 6th M. Angel Gonzalez (CAPA championship leader), 7th Carlos de Quero (my partner) and can´t remember further than this
Everyone enjoy the weekend and the end of the day with plenty of gifts made even better a great day of racing.
