hi have just been given an original t1 with the pivot ball suspension and longer rear shocks.
is it worth keeping? it in very good condition but will need a chassis sometime due to wear are the front by the bumper.
what chassis should i replace it with if so as some of the old parts are unavalible?
i race mostly on ashphelt here in the uk.
thanks
spud

spud I have a couple of the next generation to yours and it can still win in the right hands

I think the standard EVOII chassis is a direct replacement, but Mario will be able to confirm.

As to is it worth keeping, I'd say yes without a doubt - very little breaks, but I would suggest you get a pair of front and rear lower wishbones just in case

I have 3 of the same model that you have. I too have a badly worn chassis for 1 of the 3 cars. I found out that if you change to a newer EVO II T1 chassis, you have to change the rear bulkheads too. The battery placing's a little bit closer to the bulkhead. The original ones would not allow the batteries to sit into the slots of the EVO II graphite chassis. I recently purchased the T1R bulkheads to correct that problem.

Richard,

Yes, Kyle is showing promise :D
For a few years I used cunning and wisdom to beat his youth and enthusiasm but for the past 18 months I can count the times I've beaten him with the fingers on one hand. Sometimes he is kind (like last week) where he waits until the 3 min mark before he passes me - really annoying seeing as I was a clear 2nd! he could have stayed behind me for the rest of the race so we finished on the same lap!

He won the BRCA U14 Nationals last year with the old EVOII (as mentioned above!) and is even quicker this year with the FK05. He's qualified 2nd in BTCC 19T A finals for both rounds he's run (we didn't do Bedworth) and has had BRCA B finals in 2 of the 3 rounds so far (Ashby last weekend was a disaster!)...and of course he's our reigning club champion 8)

Fortunatly we do get some support from our local hobby shop, RacingDrome. I have written to Mirage several times regarding getting him a B team drive, but nothing's come out from it. I reckon I could easily get him a Schumacher drive, seeing as their HQ and production facility is about 10 miles away and our track is the "local" for many Schumacher drivers, but as a privateer Kyle generally beats them so untill Schumacher produce a competetive car I see that as a retrospective step (although it could save me a load of money!). I understand that this year they are focussing on the off road car, so a Mi3 could be a year away...and the rate Phil D is going thru their diffs is a worry on the Mi2.

But hey, maybe Mario will read this and think that the potiential of taking a 14 year old who is proving himself at the top level in the UK and has been driving Xray's for 4 years is worth a serious look :P (a not so subtle hint!)

Spud,

The T1 is fantastic on carpet, especially if you are running foams, and also prety good on rubbers. Although it is heavier than "modern" chassis I found it to be the strongest available and certainly the easiest to make quick changes to. Go up a couple of springs all round from the kit (for foams) and add some castor and you should be almost there.

Keep an eye on a "well known auction site" for second hand ones for spares.

James
