XRAY - Model racing cars

5 1/2 galon through one car and little to no wear on the drive shafts the other car has 3 gallon through it and has similar little to no wear on the shafts ...our old cars where ready for the bin at this stage

If i am thinking straight (its late here in the uk) then the 4 unis are taking less than 1/4 of the engines torque because you have to remember the torque is going through the crown wheel and pinion first at a ratio of 3.33 :1 ....................i think please correct me if i am wrong.

i believe that the 4 unis have more tq than the engine puts out.....

remember, transmissions are torque multipliers... if it wasnt tru then, you could stall the engine by touching the tire

quite so slim! the pins will get more torque than the engine puts out, but less spinning speed. the engine goes up to say 40'000 rpm and like baldyb says the ratio of the crown wheel is 3.33:1 so this will turn the 40'000 to (40'000:3.33 = ) 13'000 rpm (about) at the pins. BUT: the energy remains the same. so if there is less speed, than there must me more torque, than the engine puts out. My physics is not that hot, but i would calculate:
the torque of the engine will be about the 3.33 times higher (due to the crown wheel ratio) at the pins, and for there are four of them, divide it by 4 still.
Whatever - long saying short meaning: the torque will be higher at the pins than at the engine, due to less speed and still same energy.
